Originally intented to be a doctor, Abram Romm studied Psycho- Neurological Institute in St. Petersburg in 1914 – 1917 and right after the Medical Faculty of Saratov University in 1917 - 1922. Paralelly with his studies at the Saratov University he worked at the art department as the professor and rector of The Highest Institute of Theatrical Art, the director of the theater. In 1923 he became the director of the Revolutionary Theatre in Moscow and he was the pedagogue at Moscow Pedagogical Institute - VCIK. In 1925 – 1934 he was the pedagogue and later docent at State Film University VGIK in Moscow. Room's best known film is Bed and Sofa (1927), for its time unusual story of the evolution of a housewife into a strong liberated woman.
