Born: 21 January 1937 (Ashkhabad, Soviet Union (now Ashgabat, Turkmenistan))
Considered the godfather of Turkmeni cinema, Narliev was trained as a cinematographer and shot several films before directing his own. After making documentaries for Turkmenfilm studios, he directed Celovek za bortom, his first fiction film. Nevestka-- a lovely, bittersweet evocation of memory and longing-- is one of the great films of Turkmeni cinema. Narliev continued to direct, act, and write for the screen, and currently serves as first secretary of the Film Union of Turkmenistan.Filmography:
