Ishmukhamedov, Elyer
Born: 1 May 1942 in Tashkent, Soviet Union, now Uzbekistan
After working at a chemical and pharmaceutical plant in his native Tashkent, Ishmukhamedov gained employment on local film shoots and decided to attend VGIK, earning his degree in 1967. As a studio director for Uzbekfilm, he wrote and directed a number of films, such as Tenderness, that were influenced by the prevailing trends of European film - Italian cinema and the French New Wave. Popular in the Soviet Union and heralded at film festivals worldwide, Ishmukhamedov's films are full of images of indelible lyricism.Filmography
